They are doubles teammates and good friends. But when Dipti Kuity and Salvi Shah faced each other across badminton net on Sunday — top honours on the line — they were the fiercest of rivals.
At Vadodara on Sunday, in the U-17 girls final of the VSDA Gujarat State Major Ranking Tournament 2015, Dipti posted a 21-19 21-19 victory in the pulsating match.
Interestingly, a few minutes before the U-17 singles final Dipti-Salvi combo had bagged two doubles — U-17 & U-19 — titles. They had beaten Jui Shah and Kosha Trivedi in U-17 title round 21-14 21-11 win. In the U-19 doubles final, Dipti-Salvi got the better of Ayushi Nayak and Rahi Doshi in closely fought match 21-10 18-21 21-17.
Abhyudaya Agrawal and Dhrumil patel defeated Digvijaysinh Kushwaha and Shrey joshi in the final to clinch the U-17 boys’ doubles title.
Anoushka Parikh was at her lethal best when she beat Riya Gajjar by the score of 21-6,21-16 in the final to take the U-19 girls’ singles crown.
